However, I'm not totally sold on the reliability of these mini SSDs so I don't rely on them 100% For home, the rotational drive I've already mentioned, and then a mini SSD such as the Samsung T5 for the road. Also, if you spend a lot of time on the road then I recommend a two step backup system. Note: TimeMachine is a slow steady backup system and doesn't really benefit from SSD speeds. I prefer building my own with a high quality enclosure (such as those from ) and a good drive, such as Western Digital's black label line. They use cheap enclosures and cables and drives of unknown provenance. For that I prefer a rotational drive from a reliable source and I'm not a fan of drives you find at a big box discount store. There are three possible applications for an external drive.
